Week 32

Happy Friday Team,

Well...another week is completed and we have officially entered the Month of May...the last FULL month of the school year.  Yay...and now this week is all about YOU!

Thank you...thank you...thank you...for all you do each and every day to support and grow your students...both academically and socially.  I am continually impressed with each one of you and the efforts you display in and out of the classroom.  It is noticed...

You are amazing...you have the biggest hearts...you continue to give when you virtually have nothing left to give...you inspire me each and every day...simply, you are the best!

Thank you for choosing to be here at Laurus Academy and for being such an important part of my team.  I couldn't do my job without you...nor would I want to.

CHIMEIN Staff Survey

Thank you so much for completing the CHIMEIN Survey.  I definitely appreciate the feedback and use it to continue to grow in my role as your Dean.  Thank you for being a part of my school family and team.

Field Trips

Continue to include in weekly newsletters the following information:

"If students have been suspended since April 7th, they will not be able to attend the grade level field trips.  This is a school policy."

Time Off and ESTA Entry

It is an expectation for all staff to input their ESTA time on the day of your absence regardless of whether you have ESTA time or move in to Non-Policy Time.  We cannot have you carry over time entry to avoid using Non-Policy time or to wait until you accrue more ESTA time.  This is not an allowable practice. If you have outstanding time that needs to be entered, please do that asap. Neglecting to do so can have subsequent consequences.

Just some reminders:
  • You are able to only use 72 hours of ESTA time each year, no matter how much you have accrued.  This is a state law.
  • If you go into Non-Policy Time, accruing more than 16 hours will result in Level Write Ups with our Business Partner.
Achievement Boards

These need to be updated with current student work by Friday, May 1st.

Mother Son Dance

We are excited to announce that we will be having our first Mother Son Dance since the pandemic!

"Mambo with Mama" will occur on Friday, May 15th from 5:00-7:00 pm.  This dance is for current Laurus students.  The cost is $20.00 per ticket ($40.00/couple) and $5.00 for each additional "son".  Tickets go on sale Monday, April 20 through Monday, May 11th.  Sale hours are 7:30-8:00 am and 2:30-3:15 at Door 7.  First come, first serve!

Attendance

Please continue to be up to date with your daily attendance and grid submission. It is your responsibility to make sure that your attendance is submitted for AM/PM each day and that your grids are submitted for every week of the school year..  Please check your folder.

Bathroom Reminders

Just a few additional reminders:

1.  If students have a history of fighting, please do not let them go with a group into the bathroom during a bathroom break. They need to go by themselves.
2. Please diligently monitor your bathroom breaks.
3. Only allow one student out of the room at a time for an emergency bathroom break.

Behaviors

If a student is misbehaving or having issues in the classroom, you need to be the first contact with the parent (Phone Call, Email, SchoolConnect, etc.).  Also, make sure that you are inputting these behaviors in the system.  The ABSS's and Deans cannot move on these continual behaviors if there is no paper trail.

Also,  continue to remind students/parents that if students have been suspended since the beginning of Trimester 3 they may be unable to attend the field trips.

Birthday Celebrations

Please remember that we have a new procedure this year regarding student birthdays.  We know students love to celebrate their birthdays...and rightly so.  However, we cannot have these celebrations continually disrupting our instruction.

In order to take the pressure off of you for making the decision, we have instituted Birthday Celebrations on the LAST FRIDAY of every month.  If parents ask, please remind them of this.  Our next Birthday Celebration Friday is May 29th.  We will hold June Birthday Celebrations on the last day of school.

Week 31

Good Morning Team,

Well...here we are...at the end of another week...with seven (7) weeks left!...and anticipating the beginning of MSTEP and PSAT testing next week.  As I said last week, you have been working so hard to prepare our students for this testing, and soon we will be able to see the results of your effort.

What we need to focus on now is encouraging our students to take their time...on MSTEP...and do their best.  They need to get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, be on time to school, and work diligently to stay focused and do their best.

I hope that you all take some time this weekend for some rest and relaxation...and fun!

Here we go!

🔹 Stick to your scheduled recess time, please do not extend beyond your assigned slot.
🔹 Missed recess? It should be made up inside your classroom, not outside.

Week 29

Good Morning Team,

We made it through another week!...You were all working so hard with getting the students back on track following spring break...and we completed another successful session of tutoring!  Great job!

I know that this is a stressful and tiring time of the year.  Please take some time this weekend to rest and recharge.  Have a blessed one...

Week 29 Instruction

This week is Week 29 of instruction. Three weeks from Monday, our testing season begins.  Please continue to focus on those priority standards during your workshop/small group instructional time.

As you are planning for your Workshop/Small Group instruction, please keep the following in mind:

We all know that quality core instruction is what we strive to provide.   However, not every student "gets it".  So when you are planning for your intervention/reteach small group workshop remember to use different strategies than when you first taught the concept.  The students who are in reteach wouldn't be there now if they had mastered it in whole group instruction.

Week 28

Happy Friday Team...It's time to celebrate!

You made it...you did it...congratulations!  Now, it's time for you to enjoy a well deserved break!  Thank you so much for all of your hard work these last few weeks.  It has been noticed.  Please relax, rest, rejuvenate, and have some fun and we will return for the last push to summer. 🩷

When we return we will be entering the last 10 weeks of school and testing season!  As you know, this time will go like a whirlwind, and it is very important that set your classroom and students up for success.

As such, I strongly recommend you go back to the "beginning" as you welcome your students back to class.  Procedures and Routines  are EVERYTHING... If students behaviors do not match your expectations, make sure you have them re-do and repeat until they do, and as often as you need.

Just remember, on Tuesday, April 7th, you are setting your classroom and students' behaviors for the remainder of the year.

Week 28 Instruction

When we return we will be in Week 28 for instruction.  Even though we are rigorously preparing for our testing season, it is very important that we maintain our scope and sequence without deviation, and that we are up to date with the weekly Common Assessments. Please make sure that this is done.

MSTEP Mondays

We don't have many Mondays left before your MSTEP testing begins.  Please make sure that you are utilizing this time effectively in preparation for testing.

03's and GLTs

GLTs and 03s will be held as scheduled.  03's during these next 10 weeks will be very purposeful as we take time together to reflect over this past year and begin to make preparations for the upcoming school year.

Sub Plans

It is very important that you have sub plans, work and all of the necessary documents ready to go.  With the uptake in illness, these are necessary for last minute absences.  It is not fair to your teammates to have to scramble to make copies, etc. to ensure the consistency of instruction in your classroom.  Please make sure, if this applies to you, that you have sub plans and work ready upon our return.
